Allscripts enables native view of My Health Record in SA’s Sunrise EMR
Electronic medical record (EMR) vendor Allscripts has worked with the Australian Digital Health Agency to embed a native viewer of the My Health Record in its Sunrise EMR used in a number of South Australian public hospitals.
SA Health previously rolled out a viewer for discharge summaries, pathology reports and diagnostic imaging reports and has been linked to the national system since 2013 using the locally developed Healthcare Identifiers and PCEHR Services (HIPS) technology.

We read this article with interest. Unfortunately it is very misleading. The reality is that SA Health have used HIPS UI viewer and embedded it in the EMR application, which was performed by a SA Health developer. HIPS UI has a stand alone mode which SA Health were using since 2003 as noted and now they are using the HIPS UI in embedded mode. The point is the organisation has to be running HIPS to enable this. It is not a feature of Sunrise. Hope that clarifies what is going in on here. The article reads as if Allscripts has embedded a "native viewer" and replaced HIPS version. The HIPS UI application is that "native viewer". FYI it is running at most of the Jurisdiction public hospitals (VIC, TAS, NT, WA and now SAH). Cheers Paul
According to ADHA, the agency and SA Health began work in mid-2020 to validate a proof of concept for the embedded viewer option in HIPS, building on work conducted during the My Health Record expansion program in 2018-19.
it would be clearer.
Your issue seems to be that I’m suggesting HIPS has been replaced. Nowhere do I say that.
In 2013 SA Health began uploading Discharge Summaries using HIPS. In 2019 SA Health began uploading Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging Reports using HIPS, and also rolled out HIPS UI for viewing patients' My Health Records. In late 2020 SA Health went live with HIPS UI in embedded mode within Sunrise EMR for viewing patitents' My Health Records. At the same time work was also completed to view My Health Records using HIPS UI in embedded mode within OACIS, but my understanding is that this has not been rolled out for production use.
