Fewer than one per cent of GP consults conducted by video: analysis

An analysis of Medicare data for general practitioner services over the last year shows that fewer than one per cent were provided by video, despite the introduction of new telehealth items for the COVID-19 response in March 2020.

The analysis of MBS data for GP services between April 2020 to March 2021 by Melbourne GP Andrew Baird shows that of the almost 150 million GP services, 72 per cent were conducted in person, 27.4 per cent were by phone and just 0.6 per cent were by video.
