Abaki nears PCEHR compliance, enters day surgery market

Practice management and clinical software vendor Abaki has completed the majority of its compliance certification for the new eHealth Practice Incentive Program (ePIP), and is now turning its attention to developing specific software modules for the day surgery sector.

Abaki's practice management software Practice 2000 has been listed on NEHTA's ePIP product registry as certified for the Healthcare Identifiers Service, and its clinical module, Medinet, for electronic transfer of prescriptions.

Medinet is ETP-capable when used with the MediSecure electronic prescription exchange service, and is SMD-compliant when using the Argus or HealthLink secure messaging services.

Abaki's owner Ken Ho-Le said a new version of the software will begin to be rolled out this week, with further work continuing on Medinet's interface with the PCEHR. This should be finished in late February or early March, he said.

“We finished the HI Service development last year but the certification process took a while and we only got certified recently,” Dr Ho-Le said.

“We are ETP compliant when our clients are using MediSecure. The software hasn't been released yet but that will start from this week.”

Dr Ho-Le estimates that Abaki is used by 400-odd clients, including 80 specialists and over 300 GPs. The majority of them are using Practice 2000, but more are also transitioning to Medinet from other clinical software packages, he said.

For the coming year, Abaki will continue work on new software products for day surgeries, he said.

“That requires special modules to link data to various health authorities,” he said. “We have a number of big clients who want us to develop the software for them so we are working hard on that.”
