Practo is an Indian startup on a mission to transform healthcare by providing digital solutions that simplify patient decisions and optimise healthcare operations.
Started in 2009 by Shashank N.D. and Abhinav Lal, with the primary objective of helping patients look up doctors and book appointments online, Practo has gone on to become Asia’s largest doctor discovery platform, the company laying claim to more than 140,000 doctors and 4 million users.
Apart from being the primary search portal for patients, Practo also offers a SaaS (software as a service) platform - Practo Ray - that lets doctors manage patient records, store patient notes, schedule appointments, process payments and much more. Practo is also working on improving the reliability of the availed healthcare services with a feedback mechanism that rates the quality of interactions with healthcare professionals.
Practo has expanded into 35 cities in India, and into Singapore and Philippines. In Singapore the company touts a 70% market share, with more than 4300 doctors using its services.
Recently, it raised $30 million from Sequoia Capital and Matrix Partners to accelerate its growth, one of the largest investments into digital health globally.
In a move to broaden its focus to encompass preventive healthcare, Practo has recently acquired FitHo, an online portal that offers digital solutions for promoting a healthier lifestyle.
According to the company, Practo is seeking maintain momentum by adding more features and services to its platform. The company also plans to expand the scope of its core offering, with plans to include hospitals, diagnostic centres, spas, salons, and wellness and fitness centres in its online discovery portal.
Utilisation of Practo's services is currently growing at rapid pace, with users increasing more than 20-30% every month. It’s search volume has grown 10-12x in the last year, and it now books almost 100,000 online appointments every month.
