Emergency app a win for St John Ambulance

St John Ambulance NSW has won the Vodafone Foundation's 48-hour App Aid event for its app to assist volunteers to access patient treatment guidelines in an emergency.

The App Aid competition involved 10 charity teams building their app in 48 hours and presenting to a judging panel.

The Vodafone Foundation will make a $30,000 donation to St John Ambulance, with $10,000 going to the runner-up. Each charity can use some of the money support to further develop their app prototype.

The St John Ambulance app will be developed to support volunteers when they are out in the field, by providing them with access to information including tips, checklists and patient treatment guides to assist in emergency treatment.

The app will also allow members and team leaders at events and emergencies around the state to communicate with headquarters to report on patient workload and activity.
