1 - PKI has been adopted by the Australian Government to provide a robust system of security for online health transactions and is essentially a secure method of transmitting information electronically by providing both authentication and encryption. Medicare Australia requires the use of PKI for all electronic data interchange (EDI) and e-business solutions, while NEHTA recommends compliance with the standard for PKI systems used in the health industry.
