Hunt agrees to strengthen My Health Record privacy provisions: RACGP

In a letter to members today, RACGP president-elect Harry Nespolon said certain aspects of the My Health Record legislation, including a section on disclosure of information to law enforcement, were concerning.

Health Information Managers could have cleared up the perceived ambiguity raised in error by the parliamentary librarians. As gate keepers of health information in the hospital sector for nearly 70 years, there has never been an issue with the requirement of a court order to release health information to law enforcement agencies. It used to be quite fun sending away the young constables to find a judge. Fishing exercises by lawyers are the worst. If you have a HIM professional in place you have no ambiguities.
