Communicare upgrade enables tracking and tracing of COVID-19 roll-out
Telstra Health has upgraded its community health and primary care services platform Communicare to help enable the tracking and tracing of patients receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.
Consumers using the Telstra Health’s HealthNow app can also get access to their immunisation status through their mobile device if they have enabled access to their My Health Record on the app.
The latest versions of Communicare are also compliant with the new active ingredient prescribing rules that became mandatory on February 1. Version 19.2 of Communicare now enables PBS and Repatriation PBS (RPBS) prescriptions to include active ingredients.
The COVID-19 upgrade will extend Communicate’s immunisation functionality to enable healthcare providers to capture vaccine serial numbers.
Telstra Health says this has been developed in line with proposed legislative changes announced by the Department of Health which will require all recognised vaccination providers to submit a record of vaccination inclusive of defined mandatory fields to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
As of March 1, healthcare providers administering COVID-19 vaccinations will need to record the vaccine serial number and report the vaccine as part of the administration process.
Telstra Health’s general manager of primary and community health Colleen Birchley said the upgrade to Communicare enables healthcare professionals to upload a mandatory serial number to the AIR once this is entered in Communicare.
The upgrade will be available to customers once all compliance and testing activity with the Department of Health has been completed.
“As soon as we were aware of the recent legislative changes, we quickly adapted Communicare and other Telstra Health solutions, such as the HealthNow app, to support our healthcare partners in delivering high-quality, safe care that is compliant with mandatory requirements,” Ms Birchley said.
HealthNow is one of two apps with full integration with the My Health Record, the other being Chamonix’s Healthi app.
