Better Health Channel releases iOS app
Launched by Victoria Minister for Health, David Davis, Better Health Victoria has released a free app for Apple iOS devices.
According to the Minister, the ‘Better Health’ app “extends the reach and access of the award-winning Better Health Channel, which is Australia’s number one health and medical website featuring the most trusted, up-to-date and easy to understand health and medical information.
“iPhone and iPad users can search for and locate an extensive range of health services throughout Victoria including doctors, dentists, pharmacists and physiotherapists. The app also allows people to get quick access to hundreds of Better Health Channel medical conditions and treatments fact sheets, anywhere at anytime,” said Mr Davis.
Shedding some light on current interest levels in the app, Simon Blankenstein, Manager Digital Media, Department of Health Victoria, said that over 33,000 unique users have downloaded the app since its launch in late September. These people have collectively used the application around 100,000 times, with a median session length of around 1.5 minutes. Blankenstein added that around 70% of the users of the app were female.
The app’s integrated provider and services database interfaces with the comprehensive Victorian Human Services Directory, which is believed to be in the process of being prepared for national deployment. Such a development may, in turn, allow the Better Health app’s developers to scale the software’s search capabilities for a national audience, however the Department of Health would not be drawn on its plans for the app’s future development, other than to say that its library of content will be expanded in the coming months as part of a minor upgrade.
