HCN updates MDref, adds asthma info line referral
The differential update is current from May 1 and builds on the April 2012 full build of MDRef. It can only be applied over the April version.
HCN has also added a new direct link to the Asthma Foundation NSW's Asthma InfoLine for patient education and support. From May 1, a pop-up prompt will now appear in MD to enable direct referral to the Asthma InfoLine for telephone education and support.
The Asthma Foundation recently enabled referrals from health professionals to the InfoLine, which provides evidence-based and user friendly information and advice to help patients better understand and manage their asthma, and answer any questions that might arise in between GP visits.
Patients receive a phone call within two working days of referral from an asthma educator who will discuss the patient's asthma control. They then work with the patient to provide education and support to ensure they have sufficient knowledge and understanding to practice good asthma self-management, and are taking their medications appropriately.
GPs can send a referral online by filling out a webform or they can download the referral form and email or fax it to the InfoLine.
The forms are also included in MD and in Best Practice software.
