Changes at the top at South Island Alliance

Former home and community care provider HHL Group manager Mark Leggett has been appointed as general manager of the South Island Alliance, replacing Jan Barber, who was in the role for six years.

A collaboration of the South Island’s five DHBs, the SI Alliance oversees a number of functions including information services and is in charge of the implementation of the single South Island-wide patient management system being built by Orion Health, known as SI PICS.

It has also led the roll out of electronic referrals across the region and later this year will see all five South Island DHBs sharing clinical information electronically across primary and secondary care through the Health Connect South/HealthOne system.

Mr Leggett is a trained nurse who was formerly general manager of medical and surgical services at Canterbury DHB, and was most recently vice president of international services at HHL, where he worked on a project developing services for the aged and community services sector in China, including developing a Chinese language client management system.

Ms Barber, a trained pharmacist, announced her decision to retire from full-time work earlier this year.
