Telstra Health chair Cynthia Whelan to depart

Telstra's new business group executive and chair of its Telstra Health arm Cynthia Whelan is leaving the company, the Australian Financial Review reports.

Ms Whelan joined Telstra in 2013 and was named as chair of the board of Foxtel this year. She acted as managing director of Telstra Health following the retirement of inaugural MD Shane Solomon in 2016 as the company looked for a permanent replacement.

In a staff memo cited by the AFR, Telstra CEO Andy Penn said the health division will continue to operate as a standalone business unit under managing director Mary Foley, who was appointed in February.

“Telstra Health will have separate operating and financial models,” Mr Penn said. “This will help us continue to grow Telstra Health and build further industry specialisation."

Ms Whelan has joined shopping centre and real estate business Scentre Group.
