Green Cross appoints new CIO to drive digital transformation

NZ pharmacy and medical centre provider Green Cross Health has appointed former Fonterra staffer Mark Smith as its new chief information officer, with a remit to lead digital transformation across the group.

Mr Smith oversaw Fonterra's digital team, rolling out advanced analytics, internet of things and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Green Cross Health chief operating officer Steve Browning said Mr Smith's experience at one of New Zealand’s largest businesses would be a huge asset for the company, which runs 354 pharmacies, 39 medical centres and a range of community health services.

“This appointment shows we’re serious about digital transformation and future-proofing our business, so we can continue to fulfil the healthcare needs of people in communities throughout New Zealand,” Mr Browning said.

Mr Smith will be responsible for the technology aspects of the Green Cross Health strategic plan, which includes creating easier access to healthcare through the use of digital platforms, as well as managing the day to day systems and network operations.

The company says it has a goal of supporting patients to proactively manage their own health using online platforms and health coaching services, in addition to face to face engagement with health professionals.
