Former DHHS CIO joins St John of God Health Care

St John of God Health Care has appointed former Victorian Department of Health and Human Services CIO Grahame Coles as its new group director of digital and technology.

Mr Coles was most recently CIO of the Tasmanian DHHS. He has also previously worked in community services, agriculture, food, manufacturing and retail industries.

St John of God Health Care group CEO Shane Kelly said Mr Coles had experience in creating customer-centric models for IT and strong strategy, innovation and governance credentials.

“I am confident Grahame will do a great job in leading our digital and technology team, who deliver and support a wide range of large-scale projects as we increase our investment in information and technology, while also continuing to support our existing platforms and systems through a period of considerable change,” Dr Kelly said.

“Technology in healthcare remains a global focus with technology organisations investing large amounts of money in research and new products that will provide benefit for both health providers and consumers.”

St John of God most recently worked with Telstra Health to develop a mobile app for visiting specialists at its major private medical and surgical hospitals.

The not-for-profit private hospital and home nursing group is weighing up the potential of rolling out an electronic medical record to its hospitals in the near future. Its Midland public and private hospitals in Perth use Telstra Health's EHS system.

Mr Coles started last month.
